5 Fun Fall Activities for Your Preschooler

Published October 7, 2021

Fall is upon us! If you are looking for a few ways to enjoy the change in seasons with your little one, we have you covered.

1. Visit an arboretum and look at the different leaves

Point out how different trees change colors at different times. Find leaves on the ground and talk about the colors, shapes, and even the different kinds of trees. As an art project, create a book of the different leaf shapes you find.

2. Bake apple cider donuts or muffins

Little kids love to help out in the kitchen. The lessons they learn by measuring, mixing, and pouring are worth the extra mess. The best part about making donuts at home is you can control the amount of sugar and even sneak in some extra nutrition through nuts.

3. Paint a pumpkin

You can pick up a pumpkin from the store or a pumpkin patch. Or you buy a pumpkin to paint from a craft store. We have found putting some newspaper or puppy pads down and letting the kids paint with just their diapers on helps control the mess without bringing down the level of fun.

4. Get up and moving with a fun Halloween game

This one is great for getting the wiggles and giggles out. You can make cards or dice with different movements and Halloween creatures. For example, fly like a bat, ride a broom like a witch, or walk like a zombie. Then roll the dice or randomly pick cards and act out each movement together.

5. Roast marshmallows for s’mores

Sitting safely by a fire and roasting marshmallows is a great end of the day treat. If you don’t have easy access to a firepit or don’t feel comfortable with your little one next to an open flame, indoor campouts with s’mores made in a microwave work just as well! Combine it with some storytelling and maybe even a campout in your living room.
