10 Games You Can Play With a Piece of Chalk
You can do more than you think with one piece of chalk and an open sidewalk
1. Hopscotch
This classic game is set up by drawing a grid with numbered squares that everyone hops on. Make sure to create a good mix of one and two step jumps. You can even create challenges where they need to jump only on even or odd squares.
2. Four Square
This one involves a piece of chalk and a ball. Create a large square and divid it into four smaller squares. Each player stands in a square and bounces the ball to a different square. The person in that square needs to catch it or they are out.
3. Target Toss
Draw circles with different point values and toss objects like rocks or beanbags into the squares. See who can get the most points.
4. Race Track
Create start and finish lines for everyone to race. You can even draw some lines that act as obstacles to jump over and balance on.
5. Alphabet Hunt
Write letters on the ground and have kids jump to the correct answer as you announce them.
6.Pictionary
Divide into teams and take turns drawing pictures of specific words or phrases while others guess what you’re drawing.
7. Simon Says
Create different shapes on the ground and use it to play Simon Says. You can mix it up with different actions like, “Simon says hop to the square.”
8. Musical Squares
Draw squares in a grid and add numbers to each square. Play music while players move from square to square. When the music stops, call out a number, and players must find that numbered square to stand in. Anyone who cannot fit, is out until the next round.
9. Tic-Tac-Toe
Draw a giant tic-tac-toe grid and take turns making X’s and O’s to make three in a row.
10. Chalk Maze
Create a simple maze for your child to navigate through, either by walking or riding a bicycle.
